Visitor Center
Smithgall Woodland Garden

The Smithgall Woodland Garden, located in Gainesville, Georgia, is a 185 acre natural woodland expected to open to the public in spring 2010.

Located at the top of the property's deepest ravine, the visitor center features an airy lobby that open up into the woods and the adjacent pond area.  Dogwood and redbud trees will add spring color to the array of existing hardwoods.  The event and education space flows into the woods as it meanders out onto the covered porch (with fire pit), large deck and pond area.  The embrasure of the existing tree canopy provides a delightful sense of scale, enclosure and dappled light to this outdoor space.

Incorporating a series of streams, grottos and waterfalls, the Enchanting Woodland Garden will include four thematic trails celebrating wind, earth, sky and water.  EDAW is providing the master planning and landscape architecture design for the project.
