Education Pavilion -
Atlanta Botanical Garden

The education pavilion is an adventure place focused on middle school children and their discovery of the richness of an urban woodland.  Set in the most remote section of the Atlanta Botanical Garden, the pavilion stradles a unique "threshold" set between the earthbound woodland floor below, the enchanting tree canopy above, the sunlit glade and deep shadows of the woodland.  Critical views to trees, including the largest tree on the ABG campus, are the basis of the experience.  A "free zone" area provides a protected place for the children to explore and engage in structured learning activities.  Protected access and critical vistas are provided by the ramp as it threads through the trees.

A public gathering space for all garden visitors is located below the classroom, providing a retreat within the larger garden experience.  It also connects to the glade and deeper woodland zones.  Separated from the main circulation path, it makes an engaging place for special events and gatherings.
